LEMON SAUCE

½ cup sugar
1 cup boiling water
1 Tbs. cornstarch
2 Tbs. butter
dash of salt
dash of nutmeg
1½ Tbs. lemon juice
¼ tsp. lemon rind (grated)

Mix all of the ingredients except boiling water in a small saucepan. Add water slowly, stirring constantly, and bring to a slow boil over medium heat. Cook until mixture begins to turn clear and thickens. This is excellent served warm over gingerbread or other cakes. It will make about 1¼ cups of sauce.
