Oatmeal Cookies
¾ cup soft shortening
1 cup sifted flour
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. salt
½ cup granulated sugar
½ tsp. baking soda
1 egg
3 cups oatmeal
¼ cup water
1 cup raisins
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
Cream shortening and sugars. Add egg, water, and vanilla, mix well. Sift dry ingredients together, add to creamed mixture and blend well. Stir in oatmeal, raisins, and nuts, mix thoroughly. Drop by tsp. onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until done. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
