Dear Family,

There have certainly been many changes in our extended family over the past year, and my family was no exception. A year after moving back to California, my employer, Lockheed Martin, consolidated three aeronautics businesses into one and made Fort Worth, Texas the headquarters. Consequently, in August 2000, I took an apartment and started my new job in Texas. Darby and Kristen stayed behind in California so Kristen could finish her senior year at Valencia High School. Needless to say, this does not make the best living arrangements, which prompted a job search. God smiled on us and provided me a new job at the prestigious California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena (home of the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl). The university also operates the Jet Propulsion Lab for NASA in Pasadena. I began work at Caltech on February 12 as Associate Director of Audit. In addition to avoiding another relocation, I no longer have to travel for my job. This is the first time in over 20 years that I won't be traveling 25% or more of the time.

Darby serves as discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She loves her group—Darby's Darlings! China painting, gardening, and decorating are her passions. Darby recently talked me into adopting a frisky stray tabby cat named Orange. Orange keeps us laughing as he tries to get our dog, Captain, to play by playfully batting his tail.

Kristen is having an outstanding senior year. She is class secretary and an officer on the dance team. Kristen also is very active in Young Life—the Christian outreach to high school students. With all of these activities, she has been getting straight A's. She has been actively applying to colleges, and appears to be headed to San Diego State University (my alma mater) to major in broadcast journalism. Her school selection should be finalized within the next month

Michelle and Brock are nearing their second wedding anniversary in May. Michelle is teaching 7th grade and loving it. Brock is working as a supervisor in a wellness center. Since they are living in Virginia, we don't get to see them much. However, we had a wonderful time together over the Christmas Holiday.

Mom (Sally) and her sons and families had a great time over the Christmas Holiday. In addition to family time at home, we all had a chance to take in the Holiday Bowl football game and parade. We had a very nice visit with Skip and Trudy when they toured the West Coast. We especially enjoyed looking at the fantastic photo album that they put together of all of the family.

We pray that you will all have a blessed, healthy, and happy year.

Love, Rick, Darby and Kristen
